Benefits of Using Vertical Compost Bins

The increasing issues of greenhouse gas-emitting landfill sites highlight the need for sustainable waste management solutions. Earthmaker’s vertical compost systems offer households a way to tackle these challenges by:

Space Efficiency

Our 750mm diameter, 1200mm high, vertical compost bins are designed to fit seamlessly into small spaces including urban townhouse or apartment backyards. With a compact and efficient design, you can manage waste without taking up valuable space or compromising composting output.

Eco-Friendly Waste Reduction

We help you reduce landfill waste by diverting kitchen scraps and garden waste from collection. This not only cuts down on methane emissions but also contributes to a cleaner, greener environment by reducing pollution from garbage transport and processing.

Sustainable Gardening

Create nutrient-rich compost that naturally enhances soil health. By using our vertical or aerobic composting system, you enrich your garden soil, promoting stronger, healthier plants without relying on synthetic fertilisers. Enjoy a flourishing garden while supporting sustainability.

Improving Soil Quality

The compost produced through vertical composting is packed with essential nutrients that improve soil structure. It boosts water retention, enhances microbial activity, and promotes overall plant vitality, leading to better growth and yields.

Supporting Circular Economy Goals

We believe in transforming waste into a valuable resource. By turning organic waste into compost, our system supports a sustainable, closed-loop cycle where resources are reused, not wasted, contributing to a greener, more circular economy.

FAQs

Our vertical compost bins are designed for efficiency and space-saving. Unlike traditional three-bin systems that require large spaces and manual turning, vertical compost bins use a gravity-fed, three-stage process to decompose waste. This makes them ideal for urban settings or homes with limited space.

The Earthmaker will handle a normal level of food waste from a one to six-person household, along with garden waste to balance. The three-stage design allows for continuous composting, ensuring new waste can be added while older material decomposes. Larger households and gardens may need a second Earthmaker.

Its 750mm diameter footprint will fit on many decks, courtyards or balconies. Some garden will be needed to provide brown leaves (carbon) and to make use of the resulting compost. Although moisture is usually absorbed before reaching the ground, a draining surface is preferable. A non-absorbent mat under the Earthmaker will prevent staining.

Only the Push-Pull-Tool supplied to mix material in the top chamber, pull it forward over the front edge of the top shelf and push it down to the second level. Later it will be used to push material to the back of the middle shelf, then pull it to the front at the bottom. A spade or shovel will be needed to extract the compost.

Maintaining the correct moisture balance is simple. If the compost appears too wet, add dry materials like shredded paper or leaves. If it’s too dry, sprinkle water sparingly to maintain a damp consistency.

Our bins are made entirely from recyclable polycarbonate designed to withstand a range of weather conditions. The black pigment is especially UV-resistant, providing long-lasting performance.

The Earthmaker is less prone to attracting vermin because the newest material is held well above ground. Not including meat, cheese and oily food scraps is best practice. If pests do invade, use bait or traps to deal with them while appreciating the fact they have been attracted away from your home.

Absolutely! The compost produced is rich in nutrients and safe for use in vegetable gardens, herb planters, and other places edible plants are grown. It naturally enhances soil fertility and plant growth.
